SOVLED! After UD90, Silicon Power Launches its new Gen 4 NVMe: UD85

Silicon Power, a leading manufacturer of memory and storage solutions, has announced the launch of its latest NVMe solid-state drive (SSD), the SP UD85. This high-performance SSD utilizes the PCIe Gen 4×4 interface and is designed to meet the demands of power users and enthusiasts.

Basically, this SSD looks like the lower version of the SP UD90. UD90 has a much faster data read/write speed.

The SP UD85 is built with the latest PCIe 4.0 technology, which delivers faster data transfer speeds than its predecessor, PCIe 3.0. This allows the drive to reach read speeds of up to 3,600 MB/s and write speeds of up to 2,800 MB/s, making it one of the fastest NVMe SSDs on the market.

In addition to its high-speed performance, the SP UD85 also offers a range of large storage capacity options: 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB, providing users with ample storage space for their files, videos, and games. The drive also features a compact M.2 2280 form factor, measuring 22.0mm x 80.0mm x 3.5mm and weighs 8g, making it easy to install in a wide range of PC systems.

The SP UD85 is also equipped with advanced features such as LDPC ECC, SLC caching, and a DRAM cache buffer, which help to improve data integrity and stability. The drive also supports the NVMe 1.4 protocol, which enables faster boot times and improved application loading. The drive also supports HMB (Host Memory Buffer) for higher performance and lower latency.

The SP UD85 is built with 3D NAND technology which allows for dense storage in a compact design. It also supports RAID to protect data in the case of a drive failure. And, it has built-in E2E data protection for enhanced data transfer integrity.

The SP UD85 is now available in the market and comes with a 5-year limited warranty. The warranty is based on the TBW or Warranty period, for more information about Silicon Power Warranty Policy.

With its high-speed performance, large capacity, advanced features, and compact design, the SP UD85 is the perfect choice for power users and enthusiasts looking for a high-performance NVMe SSD. It is compatible with computer with M.2 slots supporting PCIe interface and one of the following operating systems: Windows 8.1, Windows 10 or Windows 11. The operating temperature of the drive is 0°C – 70°C and MTBF (est) is 1,500,000 hours. It passed the Shock Resistance Test 1500g/0.5ms and also certified by CE, FCC, UKCA, BSMI, Green dot, WEEE, RoHS, KCC.

The thing that is bothering me with the UD85 is its comparatively lower data read/write performance. Being a Gen 4 NVMe, it should have reached higher speed rates. But, I believe it is again going to be a cheap product targeting a different market just like the UD90.
